Rodono House
A day in 1999
Photographs
1999 was a superb year for us. Long and hard work came to an end and we started to find time to read a book again, to enjoy cooking in our finished kitchen and to experience the sheer joy of a day in our own home that we didn't have to share with others.

As with many renovation projects, almost everything that could go wrong lived up to its potential. Wrong materials arriving, people doing the wrong jobs or doing the jobs wrong, and through it all ourselves making some wrong decisions. But after a while we started to understand Sco'ish and we assembled a great team of builders. They did a tremendous job.
Throughout the entire project we have been awed by the craftsmanship that was employed in constructing the building in the first place. We strove to honour that legacy. Our squad managed beautifully.

But what really kept us going was the privilege of being entirely surrounded by an unspoilt natural environment of exceptional beauty.
Whenever we felt exhausted, the night was especially quiet, the stars amazingly bright, the loch tremendously tranquil. For us, having left behind the nonsense of mad bureaucracy, it was an altogether easier existence.

And then there was the sun. Never did we expect to see such so many days of brilliant sunshine. It's hard to believe and it was often totally different elsewhere, but the drifting clouds and the faithful sun were almost daily companions. We had a house in Scotland and it was a life of many blessings.
