Speicher, East Gable
A Speicher is a typical storage barn. This one is was actually moved from where it had originally been built, miles further away. The barn was dismantled with all the roof tiles collected and all the beams numbered, both the outside beams as well as the supports, cross sections and the roof beams. Then the lot was reassembled in its present situation.
Nowadays it just sits there, its only purpose being idyllic. Marvellous.
Kotten
Kotten is the German word for Cottage, even though it's not in the dictionaries. The English word Cottage is usually translated into German as either 'das Häuschen' (little house) or simply 'das Cottage,' without any translation at all.
I only found out because we had lived in a cottage in Scotland and now live in a similar Kotten in Germany and were struck by the remarkable similarities.
